Study time you can't fake.

AI runs in your browser and counts only the minutes you're actually working. Reach for your phone and it takes five minutes back. Your real hours rank you against students everywhere.

A low camera sees your face even when you're looking down at your work — that's why head-down still counts instead of reading as distracted.

Above 50% confidence before a second counts.

Phone in frame: 12s grace, then −5:00, again every 30s.

Framing drifts: 15s grace, then −5:00, again every 30s.

You walk away: the clock pauses itself after 10s and picks back up when you sit down.

How it works

Four mechanics, no honor system

Every number here is the number the app actually uses.

  1. Two models load into your browser

A face landmarker and an object detector run in WebAssembly on your machine. The object pass fires every 300 ms, looking for a phone and a person.

  2. Only verified focus counts

Turn your head past 45° sideways and the clock pauses. Looking down is never penalized — if your face disappears, the person check keeps you counted.

  3. Your phone costs you time

A phone in frame starts a 12-second warning. Ignore it and 5 minutes come off, then again every 30 seconds until it's gone. On breaks, your phone is fine.

  4. Hours feed the boards

Run 50/10, 25/5, or deep work. Verified hours build a day streak and rank you from your school to global. The monthly board carries all five scopes; all-time is one global list.

    Your history

Every hour lands on a calendar you can't argue with

Finish a session in the demo above and it shows up here the same second. Today, yesterday, last month — all of it, kept on your device.

These numbers live in localStorage in this browser. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data clears them.

Faded days are sample history so the calendar isn't empty on your first visit. Your own sessions show a dot — turn the sample off to see only real hours.

    Privacy

A camera app with no camera roll

Focus Arena needs to see you. It doesn't need to keep you.

    No video is uploaded

There's no upload path in the code. The video, the detectors and the timer all live in this page.

    No frames are stored

Each frame becomes a state and a confidence number, then it's dropped. No file written, no clip buffered.

The models run in your browser

They download once from a public CDN. Every detection after that is computed locally.

No account to try the demo

No sign-up, no email, no profile. Open the page, allow the camera, and it works.

The camera stops when you stop it

We call stop() on every track. Your camera light goes out, and you can watch it happen.

    Nothing is recorded

No audio track is ever requested. No screen capture, no screenshots, no recordings.

Three things cross the network here: web fonts on load, the model files once you start the camera, and your email if you type it in. No frame of video is among them. Your totals and streak stay in localStorage on your device.

    Why it works

Focus you can measure, not estimate

Four things separate this from every study timer you have already deleted.

    A referee, not a timer

Any app can count down while you scroll. Focus Arena has to see you at the desk before the clock moves. It is deliberately lenient about how you sit and strict about what you hold.

    Your phone has a price

Twelve seconds of warning, then 5 minutes gone. Again every 30 seconds while it stays in frame. Losing time you already earned stings far more than a notification you can swipe away.

    Breaks you cannot skip

Pick 50/10, 25/5 or open-ended deep work. When a focus block completes, the break starts on its own. Your phone is allowed during breaks, because that is the point of a break.

    Hours worth defending

Medals for the top three, a live "#X of Y", a day streak, and boards from your school to the whole planet. Monthly resets keep it winnable. All-time keeps it worth grinding.

    Questions

    The things people ask first

    Who is this designed for?

Students who struggle to focus — including those with ADHD or autism. If sitting down and concentrating has never come easily, Focus Arena gives you what willpower doesn't: an outside signal that keeps score honestly, so you get structure instead of shame. Streaks turn studying into a habit you can actually see, and since focused hours are what move grades, those are the only ones it counts. It's a study tool, not a medical one — it won't treat anything, it just makes the hours real.

    Does it record me?

No. Frames go straight into the two detectors and come out as a state (focused, away, absent or distracted) plus a confidence number. The frame itself is discarded. No file is written, no clip is buffered, nothing is uploaded. There is no audio track either.

Does it work in the dark, or with glasses?

Glasses are fine. The landmarker tracks straight through them.

Low light is the real limit. If the face model loses you, the object detector's person check keeps you counted as present, so a dim room usually still works. If the badge keeps flipping to "no one there", point a lamp at yourself instead of at the wall behind you.

What if I write on paper with my head down?

That counts, and it was designed to. Looking down is never penalized. If your head drops far enough that your face leaves the frame entirely, the person fallback keeps the timer running. Only a sideways turn past 45°, or nobody in frame at all, pauses the clock.

    Does it work offline?

Detection is fully local once it is running. The model files are fetched from a public CDN the first time, so the very first run needs a connection. After that your browser cache normally covers you, and a session that has already started keeps running if the WiFi drops.

What devices does it run on?

Anything modern with a camera and a current browser: Chrome, Safari or Firefox, on a laptop, an iPhone or an Android phone. Detection uses the GPU where the browser exposes it and falls back to the CPU where it does not. Older laptops run it fine — they just run warmer.

    When does it launch?

We're finishing the beta now. We're not going to invent a date we can't hold. The waitlist gets one email on the day it opens, and that is the only email you will get.

    Is it free?

The beta is free. No card, no trial countdown, nothing to pay for today. We have not set pricing beyond that, and we would rather say so than promise something we might have to walk back.

Be there when the boards open

Focus Arena is nearly out. Get on the waitlist and start your streak on day one.
